Mgahinga Gorilla National Park, established in 1991, is situated in the Virunga Mountains and includes three inactive volcanoes: Mount Muhabura, Mount Gahinga, and Mount Sabyinyo. It is Uganda’s smallest national park, covering approximately 33 square kilometers, and was created to protect the endangered mountain gorillas. The drive from Kampala to Mgahinga takes about 8-9 hours, covering roughly 508 kilometers.

Accessibility:

Kisoro is best accessed by a scheduled light aircraft flight from Entebbe, with daily departures taking about 90 minutes. Alternatively, Kisoro can be reached by road from Entebbe/Kampala in about 10 hours or from Lake Mburo National Park in 5-6 hours.
